Getting Married
La. R.S. 9:241 — no ceremony until 24 hours after the license issues
An officiant may not perform a marriage ceremony until 24 hours have passed since the marriage license was issued.
The marriage certificate is signed by the couple, the witnesses and the officiant, shows the place, time and date of the ceremony, and notes a covenant marriage if the couple chose one.
Ascendants and descendants may not marry, nor collaterals within the fourth degree, whether by blood or adoption. People related only by adoption within that degree may marry with written judicial authorization.
