Helping at the Scene
La. R.S. 9:2793 — someone who gives emergency care in good faith, without pay, is not liable for civil damages
No one who in good faith and without pay gives emergency care, first aid or rescue at the scene of an emergency, or moves the person to a hospital, is liable for civil damages from an act or omission in doing so. Using an automated external defibrillator counts.
The protection is personal to the helper and does not extend to an employer or insurer. Whether it applies to a particular rescue is a question for a licensed Louisiana attorney.
