Unfair And Deceptive Practices

Com. Law § 13-303 — where the Consumer Protection Act forbids unfair, abusive or deceptive practices

  • Selling, leasing, renting, lending or bailing consumer goods, realty or services, or offering to.
  • Offering course credit or other educational services.
  • Extending consumer credit.
  • Collecting consumer debts.
  • Buying goods or realty from a consumer while paying off the consumer's debt.

In each of those, a person may not engage in any unfair, abusive or deceptive trade practice, as the Consumer Protection Act defines it or as the Attorney General's Consumer Protection Division further defines it.

This page does not list the practices themselves. The General Assembly's page for that list prints a version labeled as taking effect on a date already past beside the earlier one still labeled in effect, so it cannot say which text is the law today.
