Passing A School Bus
Transp. § 21-706 — stop at least 20 feet away, and a fine of up to $1,000
In Maryland, when a school vehicle has stopped on a roadway with its alternately flashing red lights on, a driver meeting or overtaking it stops at least 20 feet from it, front or rear, and does not go on until it moves or the red lights are off.
The rule does not apply on a divided highway where the school vehicle is on a different roadway. A violation carries a fine of up to $1,000.
