Earned Sick Time
G.L. c. 149, § 148C — one hour for every thirty worked, paid at employers of eleven or more
One hour for every thirty. In Massachusetts, an employer provides at least one hour of earned sick time for every thirty hours an employee works. Employees accrue it from the date of hire and may use it from the 90th calendar day of employment on.
At an employer of eleven or more employees, up to 40 hours a calendar year are paid, at the employee's usual hourly rate and never less than the minimum wage.
- Caring for the employee's own illness, injury or medical condition, or that of a child, spouse, parent or spouse's parent.
- Routine medical appointments for the employee or those family members.
- Addressing the psychological, physical or legal effects of domestic violence.
