Money The State Is Holding

Mo. Rev. Stat. § 447.562 — a claim under oath, and a warning about unregistered finders

In Missouri, any person claiming an interest in money or property delivered to the state under the unclaimed property sections may file a claim to the property or to the proceeds of its sale, on the treasurer's form.

Email

Under oath. The claim is signed by the claimant and states that it is made under oath or affirmation and that its representations are true, correct and complete, subject to the penalties for a false affidavit or declaration.

Finders. The form carries a statement that any person who assists in recovering property for a fee without being registered with the State Treasurer is subject to penalties.

The holder may pay first. A holder that already paid the money to the treasurer may pay a person appearing entitled to it and be reimbursed by the treasurer, unless the treasurer has already paid that person.
