Moving Over For Stopped Vehicles
Mo. Rev. Stat. § 304.022 — pull over for sirens, a lane away from flashing lights, and a class A misdemeanor
In Missouri, a driver approaching a stationary vehicle showing lighted red, red and blue, amber, or amber and white lights proceeds with caution and, on a road with at least four lanes and two going the same way, changes into a lane not next to it if that can be done safely. If changing lanes would be unsafe or impossible, the driver proceeds with due caution and slows to a safe speed.
On the approach of an emergency vehicle sounding its siren and showing its lights, a driver moves as far right as possible on the traveled road and stops until it has passed, unless an officer directs otherwise.
Emergency vehicles for this section include police, fire, ambulance and highway patrol vehicles, and wreckers, tow trucks and utility vehicles performing emergency service, among others listed. A violation of the section is a class A misdemeanor.
