Seat Belts
Mo. Rev. Stat. § 307.178 — driver and front seat, a fine of no more than ten dollars, no points
In Missouri the driver and front seat passenger of a passenger car on a street or highway are required to wear a properly adjusted and fastened safety belt, and a driver has to secure any child under sixteen in a proper restraint.
Ten dollars, no costs, no points. A violation is an infraction with a fine of not more than ten dollars. No court costs may be charged for it, and no points are assessed.
In a damages case, not wearing a belt is not evidence of comparative negligence. It may reduce recovery only after expert evidence that it contributed to the injuries, and then by no more than one percent of the damages.
