Cruelty To Animals
Neb. Rev. Stat. § 28-1009 — abandonment, cruel neglect, and cruel mistreatment
Intentionally, knowingly or recklessly abandoning or cruelly neglecting an animal is a Class I misdemeanor, and a Class IV felony if the animal is seriously injured, falls seriously ill or dies.
Mistreatment. Cruelly mistreating an animal is a Class I misdemeanor the first time and a Class IIIA felony after that, and a Class IIIA felony from the start for knowing torture, repeated beating or mutilation.
Harassing a police animal is a separate offense in the same section. A particular case is a question for a licensed Nebraska attorney.
