Staying In Your Lane
Neb. Rev. Stat. § 60-6,139 — as nearly as practicable within a single lane, and the center lane only to pass or turn
As nearly as practicable. On a roadway marked into lanes, a vehicle is driven as nearly as practicable within a single lane and not moved from it until the driver has made sure the move can be made safely.
On a three-lane road carrying two-way traffic, the center lane is used only to pass when it is clear, to prepare for a left turn, or where devices assign it to one direction. Drivers obey devices that assign lanes.
Whether drifting over a line justified a particular stop is a question the courts decide on the facts, and for a licensed Nebraska attorney.
