When A Dog Bites

Neb. Rev. Stat. § 54-601 — the owner is liable for a bite, except to a trespasser

The owner pays. The owner of a dog is liable for all damages to any person, other than a trespasser, from being bitten by the dog.

The owner is also liable for the dog killing, wounding, injuring, worrying or chasing any person, or sheep or other domestic animals.

A police dog used under a written policy is treated differently. A particular claim is a question for a licensed Nebraska attorney.
