The Last Hundred Feet

ORS 811.335 — a turn signal continuously during the last 100 feet before turning

100 feet. A driver turning right or left on a highway gives an appropriate signal continuously during not less than the last 100 feet traveled before turning. Turning without it, or when the turn cannot be made with reasonable safety, is making an unlawful or unsignaled turn, a Class D traffic violation.

Signals are also required when changing lanes, stopping or suddenly decelerating, and when exiting from any position within a roundabout, by signal lamps or hand signals. Hand signals alone do not satisfy the law where signal lights are required. Failing to signal is a Class B traffic violation.

Which signals are appropriate, and when lamps rather than hand signals are required, are set out in sections not reproduced here. Whether a signal was given for long enough is a question of fact, and for a licensed Oregon attorney.
