Getting Paid
R.I. Gen. Laws § 28-14-2.2 — weekly pay for most hourly workers, and twice the unpaid wages in court
Most private employees are paid all due wages weekly, unless their pay is fixed at a biweekly, semimonthly, monthly or yearly rate. The director may let some employers pay less often, but never less than twice a month.
Twice the unpaid wages. An employee owed wages may sue and recover the unpaid wages, compensatory damages, liquidated damages up to two times the unpaid amount, reinstatement where it fits, and reasonable attorney's fees.
An employer may not fire, threaten or retaliate against anyone for asserting a wage claim or taking part in an investigation. A retaliation case is brought within one year.
