Hurt at Work
R.I. Gen. Laws § 28-33-30 — notice to the employer within thirty days, and a claim within two years
Thirty days. No compensation case goes forward unless the employer was given notice of the injury within thirty days after it happened or appeared.
A claim is barred unless weekly payments have started or a petition has been filed within two years after the injury or incapacity happened or appeared, or after a death or the end of a disability.
For a latent injury or disease, the time does not start until the worker knew, or reasonably should have known, of the impairment and its link to the job, or until disablement, whichever is later.
A particular injury is a question for a licensed Rhode Island attorney.
