Staying in Your Lane
R.I. Gen. Laws § 31-15-11 — within a single lane, out of it only when safe, and the center lane only to pass or turn
On a road with two or more marked lanes, a vehicle is driven as nearly as practical entirely within a single lane, and is not moved out of it until the driver has made sure the move can be made safely.
On a three lane road, the center lane is used only to pass where the road is clearly visible and clear, to prepare for a left turn, or where signs give it to one direction.
A laned roadway violation, following too closely and using the breakdown lane are each $100 on the schedule of violations.
Leaving a lane can also be the reason for a stop. A particular ticket is a question for a licensed Rhode Island attorney.
