Utah Code 77-7-19 — a court date five to 14 days out, or paying without appearing
A person who may be arrested or prosecuted for a misdemeanor or infraction may instead, or as well, be given a citation requiring an appearance at the court with territorial jurisdiction.

- The person appears in the court named on or before the date on the citation, unless it says the court will give notice of when, within five to 14 days.
- A citation may not require an appearance or contact sooner than five days or later than 14 days after it is issued.
- Not appearing, and not paying where allowed, may lead to a bench warrant.
Where the uniform fine schedule or the court allows, a person may pay the recommended fine without appearing on a class B misdemeanor or lower, but not on a domestic violence offense, a DUI, a measurable controlled substance charge, or one with a victim or restitution.
Paying the recommended fine is entered as a conviction and treated as a plea of no contest. For a person under 18, the court mails notice of the citation to the parent or guardian.
