A Minor Consenting to Treatment

18 V.S.A. § 4226 — a minor 12 or older can consent to care for drug dependency, alcoholism or venereal disease

  • When a licensed physician verifies the condition, a minor 12 years of age or older who is drug dependent, is an alcoholic, or has a venereal disease may consent to medical treatment and hospitalization.
  • For drug dependency or alcoholism, the minor may also consent to inpatient or outpatient treatment at a program the Agency of Human Services approves, if the physician finds it necessary.
  • The consent cannot be undone later because of the minor's age, and a parent's or guardian's consent is not needed.
