Getting Paid
21 V.S.A. § 342 — wages every week, or biweekly or semimonthly after notice
- An employer pays each week, in money or checks, the wages earned to a day not more than six days before payday.
- After notice to each employee, an employer may pay biweekly or semimonthly on the same six day rule.
- Under a collective bargaining agreement, wages may run to a day not more than 13 days before payday.
An employer that owes benefits under an employment agreement and does not pay for them is liable for the actual damages, and a knowing, willful failure that lasts 30 days brings a civil penalty of not more than $5,000.
