21 V.S.A. § 656 — notice to the employer as soon as practicable, and a claim within six months
An employee who receives a personal injury by accident in the course of employment is entitled to compensation under the chapter.
- Notice of the injury goes to the employer as soon as practicable after it happens.
- A claim is made within six months after the date of injury, or within six months after a death.
- The date of injury is when the injury and its link to the job are reasonably discoverable and apparent.
- If the employer paid voluntarily and then denies the claim, proceedings start within six months of the denial.
