Sales Made Away From The Store
RCW 63.14.154 — until midnight of the third day to cancel an installment sale solicited away from the seller
In Washington, a buyer may cancel a retail installment transaction solicited in person or by commercial telephone solicitation somewhere other than the seller's address on the contract. The buyer sends notice to the seller's place of business by certified mail, return receipt requested, posted not later than midnight of the third day after signing, not counting Sundays and holidays, and returns or makes available any goods received.
The seller refunds within ten days. After a cancellation, the seller, without being asked, refunds within ten days all deposits and down payments, and returns any trade-in less reasonable costs of making it ready for sale. The buyer incurs no additional liability for cancelling.
The section covers retail installment transactions, sales on credit or payment over time; it is not a general right to cancel every purchase made at home.
