Wis. Stat. 346.89 — no composing or sending texts or email while driving
No texting or email. No one may drive a motor vehicle in Wisconsin while composing or sending an electronic text message or email. A voice operated or hands free device used without the hands, except to turn a feature on or off, is outside that.
- A driver with a probationary license or an instruction permit may not use a cell phone at all while driving, except to report an emergency.
- No driver may use a cell phone, for any purpose, where people working in a highway, railroad or utility work zone or at a roadside emergency are at risk from traffic, except to report an emergency or hands free.
- Any activity other than driving that interferes, or reasonably appears to interfere, with driving safely is inattentive driving.
