After a Crash
W.S. 31-5-1101 — stop and stay, give information, and help anyone hurt
- A driver in a crash with injury, death, or damage to an attended vehicle or property stops at or near the scene and stays until the duties are met, without obstructing traffic more than necessary.
- The driver gives a name, address and the vehicle's registration number, and shows the license on request.
- The driver gives anyone injured reasonable assistance, including getting them to medical care when it is apparently needed or they ask.
Who handles this in Wyoming: Wyoming State Bar, attorney referrals; and legal aid programs and the state offices, listed in the Wyoming directory.
A driver who hits an unattended vehicle or property stops and either finds and tells the owner, or securely leaves a written notice in a conspicuous place.
Not stopping after a crash with injury or death brings up to one year in jail, a fine of up to $5,000, or both.
