Earned paid sick time is available for:
- The employee's own illness, injury or health condition, diagnosis, care or treatment, or preventive care.
- The same needs of a family member.
- A public health emergency closing the workplace or a child's school or place of care, or an exposure that could jeopardize others' health.
- Absence needed because of domestic violence, sexual violence, abuse or stalking, for medical attention, victim services, counseling, relocation or securing the home, or legal proceedings.
Unused time carries over to the next year within the yearly limits, or the employer may pay it out and front the next year's time. An employer may require an employee to wait until the ninetieth calendar day after starting before using accrued time. Adverse action within ninety days of using a right under the law is presumed to be retaliation.
