Passing A School Bus

Idaho Code § 49-1422 — stop for the signals, a $300 infraction the first time, and a misdemeanor the second within five years

Stop, from either direction. A driver meeting or overtaking a stopped school bus with its visual signals on stops before reaching it and stays stopped until the bus moves or the signals go off. Oncoming traffic on a highway of more than three lanes need not stop.

$300, then a misdemeanor. A first violation is an infraction with a fine of $300. A second or later within five years is a misdemeanor with a fine of $600 to $1,000, up to six months in jail, or both.

Fines above $100 go to a fund for school bus stop arm cameras. A particular ticket is a question for a licensed Idaho attorney.
