Seat Belts
Idaho Code § 49-673 — everyone belted, a $10 fine, and stopped only for something else
Every occupant. Each occupant of a passenger vehicle of not more than 8,000 pounds built with safety restraints has one properly fastened at all times while it is moving.
Only after a stop for something else. Officers may enforce the rule only as a secondary action, when the driver has been detained for a suspected violation of another law.
An adult who is not belted, and an adult driver whose passenger under eighteen is not, may be cited for a fine of $10, with no points and no effect on insurance rates.
A person with a physician's written statement of a medical reason, and occupants of seats where every belt is already in use, are outside the rule.
