Jury Duty and Your Job
Iowa Code § 607A.45 — no firing for jury service, and 60 days to sue if it happens
- An employer may not take a job away from, threaten or coerce an employee for being summoned, serving as a juror, or attending for jury service; doing so is contempt.
- An employee fired for it may sue within 60 days for lost wages, up to six weeks, and reinstatement, with attorney fees on winning.
An employer may not fire, deny a promotion, or cut pay for time worked because an employee is a witness in a criminal case, or a party or witness in a protective order case. It is a simple misdemeanor, and the employee may recover damages and seek reinstatement.
