Minimum Wage
Iowa Code § 91D.1 — $7.25 an hour, or the federal minimum if higher
- The state hourly wage has been $7.25 since January 1, 2008, and an employer pays it or the federal minimum, whichever is greater.
- For a restaurant, hotel or similar employee regularly getting more than $30 a month in tips, the employer may count tips toward the minimum, up to 40 percent of it.
- An employee may appeal to the director if the tips received fall short of what the employer counted.
- Until an employee completes 90 calendar days, the employer may pay at least $6.35.
