Seat Belts and Car Seats
KRS 189.125 — every occupant belted, a car seat at 40 inches or less, a booster to 57 inches
- A driver transporting a child of 40 inches in height or less has the child in a child restraint system meeting federal standards.
- A child under eight years old between 40 and 57 inches tall rides in a booster seat.
- The driver and all passengers wear a properly adjusted and fastened seat belt, except a child secured as above, a person with a written medical statement, and a mail carrier on duty.
The fine is $50 for a child restraint violation, $30 for a booster seat violation, dismissed on a first charge with proof of buying one, and not more than $25 for a seat belt violation.
