KRS 189.292 — no texting while moving, and no phone at all for a driver under eighteen
No one, while driving a vehicle in motion on the traveled portion of a roadway, writes, sends or reads text based communication on a personal communication device, such as a text message, instant message or email.
- The rule does not cover a phone's navigation feature, a navigation system built into the vehicle, or reading or entering a number or name to make a call.
- Texting to report illegal activity, summon medical help or law enforcement, or prevent injury is excepted.
- A driver under eighteen does not use a personal communication device at all while moving, except to summon medical help or police in an emergency.
The fine is $25 for a first offense and $50 for each one after.
