What A Creditor Cannot Take

Mo. Rev. Stat. § 513.430 and § 525.030 — household goods, a vehicle, tools, and at least three quarters of a paycheck

  • Household furnishings, goods, clothing, appliances, books and animals, up to three thousand dollars.
  • A wedding ring up to one thousand five hundred dollars, and other jewelry up to five hundred.
  • Tools of the trade, up to three thousand dollars.
  • Motor vehicles, up to three thousand dollars.
  • Any other property, up to six hundred dollars.
  • Health aids, and the right to Social Security, unemployment, public assistance, veterans' and disability benefits.

Those are exempt from attachment and execution in Missouri, to the extent of the person's interest.

At most a quarter of a week's pay. Garnishment may take no more than a quarter of a week's earnings after required withholding, or the amount by which they exceed thirty times the federal minimum hourly wage, or, for a Missouri resident who is the head of a family, a tenth, whichever is least. The limits do not apply to support orders or tax debts.
