The Registration Calendar
G.S. 14-208.9 — in person by the third business day after a move, and three business days before leaving the state
The third business day. A person required to register who changes address reports in person and gives written notice of the new address to the sheriff of the county of last registration not later than the third business day after the change. A move to another county also requires reporting in person to the new county's sheriff not later than the tenth day after the change.
Leaving the state. A person who intends to move to another state reports in person to the sheriff of the current county at least three business days before leaving, with written notice of the address, municipality, county and state of intended residence.
Who must register, for how long, and the penalty for failing to report are set out in other parts of the law that are not on this page. Whether a deadline applies to a particular person is a question for a licensed North Carolina attorney.
