13 V.S.A. § 4019a — no transfer until 72 hours after the background check number, or seven business days

A firearm may not be transferred until 72 hours after the licensed dealer gets a unique transaction number from the federal background check system, or until seven business days after the dealer started the check, whichever comes first. A violation carries up to one year and $500.

Storage at home. Keeping a firearm where a child or prohibited person is likely to reach it carries up to one year and $1,000 if they use it in a crime or display it threateningly, and up to five years and $5,000 if they cause death or serious injury. A locked container or a safety device is a defense.
