Stalking, Threats and Harassing Messages
13 V.S.A. § 1062 — stalking is up to two years, and criminal threatening up to one
- Intentionally stalking another person carries up to two years and $5,000.
- Knowingly threatening someone by words or conduct, so that they reasonably fear death, serious bodily injury or sexual assault, is criminal threatening, up to one year and $1,000.
- A threat aimed at a school, library, place of worship, polling place or government building carries up to two years and $2,000.
Contacting someone by phone or electronic message, with intent to terrify, intimidate, threaten, harass or annoy, through threats, obscene proposals or repeated calls or messages, carries up to three months and $250, and six months and $500 after a prior conviction.
