The Last Hundred Feet
Wis. Stat. 346.34 — 100 feet for a vehicle, 50 feet for a bicycle or scooter, and the left signal for a U-turn
Only with reasonable safety, and a signal if traffic may be affected. No person turns from a direct course or moves right or left on a roadway unless it can be done with reasonable safety, and if any other traffic may be affected, no person turns without an appropriate signal. A U-turn is signaled the same way as a left turn.
The last 100 feet, or 50. The operator of a vehicle other than a bicycle, electric scooter or electric personal assistive mobility device signals continuously during not less than the last 100 feet before turning. The operator of one of those signals continuously during not less than the last 50 feet, and need not hold a hand signal if the hand is needed to control it.
Stopping. No person stops or suddenly decreases speed without first signaling to the operator immediately behind, when there is opportunity; that does not apply to a bicyclist approaching a stop sign or signal.
Hand and arm signals, and the equipment a vehicle must carry for them, are set out in neighboring sections that are not all on this page. What a particular stop or ticket means is a question for a licensed Wisconsin attorney.
