Contracts That Renew Themselves
9 V.S.A. § 2454a — a year-long consumer contract renews only on an opt in and a reminder 30 to 60 days ahead
- A consumer contract with a first term of one year or longer, renewing for more than one month, does not renew automatically unless the terms are stated clearly in bold.
- The consumer must also take an affirmative step to opt in to the renewal.
- The seller then sends written or electronic notice 30 to 60 days before the renewal, termination or cancellation deadline, with the dates and terms.
- The seller provides an easy way to cancel, and one accepted online can be cancelled online.
