Unemployment After a Job Ends
W.S. 27-3-311 — quitting without good cause or a firing for misconduct disqualifies, and twenty eight days to appeal
To be eligible in a week, a person registers for work with the department of workforce services and actively looks, unless they will be recalled, files a claim for that week, is able and available for work, and earned enough wages in the base period.
Who handles this in Wyoming: Wyoming Department of Workforce Services, Unemployment Insurance Claims Center and Wyoming Department of Workforce Services, general inquiries; and legal aid programs, lawyer referral and the state offices, listed in the Wyoming directory.
- Leaving the last job voluntarily without good cause directly tied to the job disqualifies until the person works again and earns eight times the weekly benefit amount.
- Exceptions include leaving for genuine medical reasons, to return to approved training, as a victim of documented domestic violence, or to follow a military spouse's transfer.
- Turning down suitable work, or failing to apply for it, without good cause also disqualifies.
- A firing for misconduct connected with the work disqualifies until the person earns twelve times the weekly benefit amount in a new job.
The appeal window. A denial states its reasons. It becomes final unless a redetermination or an appeal is sought within twenty eight days after the notice is mailed.
