WHAT EACH CHARGE CARRIES

46 charges people actually meet, each with the section it comes from, what it requires the state to show, and the most it can carry. Louisiana does not sort crimes into classes. Each offense section sets its own term and fine, and R.S. 14:2 makes any crime that can be punished at hard labor a felony and every other crime a misdemeanor, so each level here names the kind and the longest term the section allows.
